A new service for people with visual or hearing difficulties will be launched at a Wolverhampton centre for independent living on Wednesday (5 December, 2018).

The resource room at the Neville Garrett Centre for Independent Living will enable people to speak to professionals about the various types of aids and adaptations which are available to help them live more independently.

People with visual or hearing impediments will be able to try out pieces of technology, and be given advice about their suitability and where they can get them from.

There will be 2 drop-in sessions a week, one for people with a visual impairment on Wednesdays and one for those with a hearing impairment on Fridays. Both sessions run from 1pm to 3.30pm.

David Watts, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Director of Adult Services, said: "As a council we are determined to do all we can to ensure that people are able to live as independently as possible and for as long as they wish.

"We know that very often even small changes can make a big difference, and so we are pleased to be offering this new service which will help people with visual or hearing impairments identify the technological aids and adaptations which could make their lives that little bit easier."

The Neville Garratt Centre for Independent Living, on Bell Street, Wolverhampton, gives older people, people with disabilities and their carers impartial advice and information around living safely and independently at home thorough the use of adaptations and equipment.
