Councillor Mike Heap has chosen the Breast Care Nurses Trust Fund, Wolverhampton Interfaith and Regeneration Network and the Wolverhampton Branch of Mencap as his charities for his year in office.

The Carver Wolverhampton Marathon takes place on Sunday 7 September and the Mayor has asked for runners to get involved and help raise funds.

Councillor Heap said: "The Carver Wolverhampton Marathon is now established as the definitive marathon in the West Midlands.

"I would urge anyone considering taking part to bite the bullet and register in the knowledge that they will be doing something that will give them a tremendous sense of achievement and raise money for excellent charitable causes.

"As well as the marathon itself, there are other events for different levels of ability."

As well as the full marathon, there is a wheelchair and cycle event, a half marathon, a children's mini marathon and a 10k run.

Carvers kindly donate part of what they raise through registration fees to the Mayor's charities and other good causes.

Anyone who wants to get sponsored and raise even more for the Mayor's charities, are asked to call the Mayor's office on 01902 554090 or email mayoral@wolverhampton.gov.uk
