With spring finally here, residents are being encouraged to help their gardens grow by recycling their household waste into compost in special cut-price bins.

Wolverhampton City Council are promoting the benefits of home composting during Compost Awareness Week, which runs until Friday 10 May.

The Recycling Exhibition Trailer will be on the Piazza (Civic Centre) on Thursday 9 May, from 9am to 2pm promoting the home composting scheme by offering advice on how to get the most out of your compost bin.

Councillor John Reynolds, Cabinet Member for City Services, said: "Gardens across the city could be blooming with peat-free composts we create from our own recycled waste.

"Home-grown compost is also a great way to help gardeners save money - and the environment."

Wolverhampton City Council, in partnership with getcomposting.com, are offering home compost bins for as little as £16.98 plus delivery - less than half the recommended retail price of £39.

There is also a 'Buy One Get One Half Price' offer, adding extra value to residents with larger gardens or those who team up with a friend or neighbour to buy a bin.

Councillor Reynolds added: "We hope that the offer on compost bins will encourage more residents to make productive use of their household waste."
