People inspired by the exploits of athletes during 2014's summer of sport - including the Commonwealth Games, Wimbledon and the World Cup - are being encouraged to take up a sport at one of Wolverhampton City Council's leisure centres.

Between them, Aldersley Leisure Village, Bert Williams Leisure Centre and Central Baths offer a wide range of sports, from track and field athletics and swimming to hockey, football, tennis, squash, table tennis, badminton, netball and bowls. There are also state of the art gyms and circuit training facilities.

There are also plenty of special activities for young visitors taking place at Aldersley Leisure Village, Bert Williams Leisure Centre and Central Baths through the remaining weeks of the summer holidays.

Councillor Elias Mattu, Wolverhampton City Council's Cabinet Member for Leisure and Communities, said: "Our leisure centres have a wide range of activities for people of all ages and abilities, and I'd encourage anyone who has been inspired to take up a sport by exploits of our athletes at events like the Commonwealth Games to seize the moment and find out more.

"We witnessed some tremendous performances by local athletes during the Commonwealth Games, including a gold medal for gymnast Kristian Thomas, silver for cyclist Andy Tennant and bronze for wrestler Chinu Singh.

"Sport is an excellent way to either help people get in, or stay in, shape, and it's also a chance to take up a pastime and meet new friends."
