Major work gets underway next week to refurbish artificial pitches at Aldersley Leisure Village.

The centre's 2 AstroTurf pitches, which are used primarily for hockey and five-a-side football, are being given a £440,000 makeover which will see the old ones taken out and new pitches laid down.

The work begins on Monday (1 July, 2013) and is expected to take around 2 months to complete. A fun day featuring sport taster sessions is planned to mark the official opening of the new pitches on Sunday 8 September, 2013.

People are being advised that they can use the alternative indoor facilities at Aldersley Leisure Centre while the work is being carried out. Please note that these should also be booked in advance to avoid disappointment.

Councillor Elias Mattu, Wolverhampton City Council's Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture, said: "These pitches are very popular but they have been in use since 1998 and so are beginning to show signs of wear and tear.

"I'd ask everyone who uses these facilities to bear with us while the work takes place but I am sure they will be delighted with the improvements we are making."

The city council received a £99,000 grant from Hockey England towards the cost of the improvement work.

The work is being carried out by Wolverhampton City Council's Property Services team.
