A range of free activities for young people aged 10 to 16 will be on offer during the summer holidays thanks to the pioneering HeadStart Wolverhampton programme.

The HeadStart Summer Programme has been developed with the support of local community organisations and will offer a variety of activities to young people and their families who live in the four target areas for HeadStart Wolverhampton - Low Hill, The Scotlands and Bushbury South; Heath Town, Park Village, Eastfield, Springfield and Old Heath; Bilston East; and All Saints, Blakenhall, Parkfields and Ettingshall.

The activities on offer are designed to improve the confidence, resilience and self-esteem of young people and include sports, arts, crafts, music, dance and drama for young people and their families, as well as media and writing workshops.

Full details of the Summer Programme in each area can be found on the HeadStart Wolverhampton website at Type=links;Linkid=8613;Title=HeadStart 2017 Summer Programme;Target=_blank;.

Activities are free but places on some activities are limited. Parents and young people should consult the programme on the website for details of how to book spaces for each opportunity. Some activities are targeted at specific groups of young people, including young carers and young people with disabilities.

Councillor Val Gibson, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: "The Summer Programme offers an excellent array of activities to encourage resilience, teamwork and self confidence in children and young people.

"It is just one of the ways in which HeadStart Wolverhampton is helping to improve the lives of 10 to 16 year olds in our City."

The HeadStart Wolverhampton programme, supported by the Big Lottery Fund, is designed to improve the resilience of children and young people aged 10 to 16 by giving them the skills they need to cope with the challenges of modern life.
