People are being encouraged to have their say about proposals to improve sexual health services in Wolverhampton.

Under recent changes to the NHS and local government, Wolverhampton City Council's Public Health team is now responsible for commissioning sexual health services in the city, including contraception and sexual health services (CaSH), sexual health promotion, HIV prevention and genitourinary medicine (GUM) services.

It also commissions services from GPs and pharmacies, such as chlamydia screening, long acting reversible contraception and emergency hormonal contraception.

Councillor Sandra Samuels, Wolverhampton City Council's Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing, said: "The current sexual health delivery model in Wolverhampton has grown organically over the years, with a number of services added on or changed over time.

"We want to carry out a complete review of the services to make sure they are offering the right sort of help and support that people in Wolverhampton need.

"This joined up, integrated, 'sexual health system' will support people in making informed, confident choices and will especially focus on those people at greatest risk.

"I'd urge everyone, whether they have accessed any of these services commissioned by Public Health or not, to help inform this review by taking part in the consultation which is now underway. We want to know what people think of our proposals, and how we can improve sexual health services in Wolverhampton.
