City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Panel has approved the next phase of capital funded projects to continue to develop and maintain the city's transportation network for the next financial year.

The Transportation Capital Programme has been developed in conjunction with the Council's regional partners, to identify key transport priorities, supporting regeneration in the City of Wolverhampton.

These priorities include continued improvements to Stafford Road, Willenhall Road and Birmingham Road corridors, enhancements to the Wolverhampton Ring Road and arterial route network, general maintenance of our existing highways and further development of the city's cycle network.

Highway improvements aim to reduce congestion, improve air quality and tackle road safety concerns. Plans also include better access to development sites to encourage economic growth in the city.

Improvements to the city's cycle network will make way for safer journeys for cyclists and support the launch of the West Midlands wide Bikeshare scheme to inspire more people to take up cycling.

John Roseblade, Head of City Transport at City of Wolverhampton Council said: "We are pleased to continue to improve our transport network, smoothing journeys and making better connections throughout the city.

"Whether you're driving, cycling, walking or using public transport, the Transportation Capital Programme will greatly benefit residents, businesses and visitors to Wolverhampton and build on the extensive investments already delivered.

"An efficient, safe and smooth flowing highway network is an essential element of economic productivity and social wellbeing.

"We all know that resources are scarce so we do prioritise and focus our efforts to try and achieve maximum benefit. We must also continue to make the most of the investment opportunities available to enhance and improve the city's road network as well as supporting businesses to help achieve our ultimate regeneration ambitions."

"With such a level of investment in our transport network there will inevitably be a degree of disruption whilst this invaluable work is carried out.  Rest assured we will continue to work with all stakeholders in order to keep this to an absolute minimum."
