The City of Wolverhampton Council's education chief has wished students good luck as they prepare to collect their GCSE results next week.

Thousands of pupils in Wolverhampton will be getting their results on Thursday (24 August, 2017) and Councillor Claire Darke, Cabinet Member for Education, said: "I want to wish all our young people collecting their GCSE results next week the very best of luck, and I hope they achieve the outcomes they want.

"I'd like to take this opportunity to congratulate pupils - and their teachers and parents - on all their hard work and wish them the very best for the future, whether they are planning on continuing their education, taking up an apprenticeship or traineeship, or entering employment for the first time."

She added: "The City of Wolverhampton Council is committed to helping schools improve and to driving up standards so that our children and young people have the chance to reach their full potential.

"We have seen steady improvements in educational standards in Wolverhampton over the last few years, with 85% of our schools now rated Good or Outstanding by Ofsted compared to just 57% four years ago, and over the next few days we'll start to get a clear picture of how pupils have performed in their GCSEs this year."

A number of organisations will be providing help and advice to students who are collecting their results next week, including schools, colleges and training providers.

Careers advisors from Connexions Wolverhampton will also be on hand to assess what options are available to pupils. Connexions Wolverhampton on Salop Street is holding drop-in sessions on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 29 to 31 August, and Friday 1 September, from 1.30pm to 4.30pm on each day. Connexions staff will also be at Bilston Market on Thursday 31 August from 9am to 5pm. For more information, please visit Type=links;Linkid=3988;Title=Connexions Wolverhampton;Target=_blank;.
