People in Wolverhampton looking to boost their career prospects and enhance their skills are invited to a jobs fair this week.

Low Hill and Scotlands Local Neighbourhood Partnership has organised the Jobs Skills Enterprise and Welfare event, which will take place on Thursday 23 May from 9.30am to 1.30pm.

More than 20 organisations will be at Low Hill Community Centre in Kempthorne Avenue, Low Hill for the event aimed at helping local people get the skills and knowledge that they need to get into work or training and even to help them set up their own business.

People will have advice on getting into training, help with CV writing, help with volunteering opportunities and also some employers who have some unfilled vacancies.

Job Centre Plus staff will also be on hand to offer advice and assistance in getting back into work and will provide up-to-date information about jobs in the city.

Also, if you're worried about how to make ends meet, you will also have an opportunity to talk to the volunteers who run the weekly Food Bank and you can get advice about managing your money from Bushbury Hill EMB and Wolverhampton Homes Smart Money Team.

Councillor Peter Bilson, Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration and Prosperity said: "Wolverhampton City Council is committed to reinvigorating the city and supporting people to get into work, training or helping them help themselves into setting up their own businesses.

"Also, we are very committed to supporting those who find themselves in financial hardship due to recent changes to the welfare system."

Tony Blakeway, Chair of Low Hill and the Scotlands Local Neighbourhood Partnership and Low Hill Community Association, said: "We want to give local people the opportunity to find a job or get the skills to set up on their own.

"We know that this is only achieved by better access to training and advice about benefits and so we thought that this should all be available in one place."

Organisations expected to attend include Low Hill Community Association, Wolverhampton College, Better Off In Wolverhampton, Princes Trust, Wolverhampton Homes Smart Money Team, Bushbury Hill EMB, Food Bank, Christian Poverty, Nova Training, Connexions, Adult Education Service, Low Hill Children's Centre, Juniper Training, Wolverhampton Voluntary Sector Council, Access to Business, Big Local Lottery, Job Centre Plus, Council Learning Disabilities Support, Woodford Care Homes, Avon, Territorial Army, Accord Housing and many more.

This event is funded through Low Hill Community Association's Community First Funding for the Bushbury South Low Hill area.
