People are being encouraged to get creative thanks to new Wednesday morning art sessions for adults at Wolverhampton Art Gallery.

This Way Up visual art sessions provide practical, hands on activities inspired by the gallery's collections and are aimed at complete beginners and those with some experience.

They take place in the gallery's Fusion Space on Wednesday 14 December, and Wednesdays from 11 January to 14 June, with the exception of 15 February and 29 March from 10.30am to 12pm.

Sessions are run by professional artists and cost £3 per person, or £2 for concessions, which includes all materials and refreshments. Booking is essential as places are limited.

Councillor John Reynolds, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for City Economy, said: "These sessions provide a perfect opportunity for people to relax, refresh and recharge by taking some creative out time for themselves."

Katy Sadler, from organisers Creative Health, added: "This Way Up gives people the chance to explore traditional and more contemporary arts and craft forms.

"Beginning with drawing, they will be able to try out new ideas and learn techniques by developing their artistic talents."
