Festive shoppers will enjoy free parking in Wolverhampton city centre on selected days in the run up to Christmas.

As traders gear up for Christmas, the city council is stepping in to support them and make people's shopping experience as easy as possible.

With thousands of people expected to attend the city's Christmas lights switch on event on Wednesday 26 November, free parking will be available at the School Street car park from 3pm.

Fold Street car park will be free each Sunday throughout December before Christmas (7, 14 and 21 December) and every Wednesday for the late night shopping evenings from 3pm. In addition, Fold Street will be free on Monday 22 December and Tuesday 23 December after 3pm. Free parking is restricted until after 3pm so that when shoppers come into the city there will be more spaces as workers start to leave.

Wolverhampton City Council's deputy leader and cabinet member for economic regeneration and prosperity Councillor Peter Bilson said: "By offering free parking in Wolverhampton city centre during the festive season we can draw in more shoppers and boost business for local traders.

"Wolverhampton is a great place to shop with a diverse range of shops, attracting visitors from across the wider region.

"We hope as many people as possible come in to the city to shop and enjoy the festive attractions."
