A special event for carers is being held in Wolverhampton on Friday (16 June) to mark Carers Week 2017.

Open to all informal carers - people who care for a friend or relative in an unpaid capacity - the Information and Celebration Day takes place at Bantock House Museum's Tractor Shed from 10.30am to 1.30pm and offers a host of events and activities.

Highlights include performances by the Wolverhampton Orpheus Male Voice Choir and taster Tai Chi sessions, while there will be an information marketplace featuring stalls from a range of partners including Healthwatch Wolverhampton, West Midlands Fire Service, Wolverhampton Clinical Commissioning Group, the Beacon Centre for the Blind, Wolverhampton Healthy Lifestyles Service and others.

The event will also feature demonstrations of the Type=links;Linkid=5929;Title=Wolverhampton Information Network;Target=_blank; and Telecare assistive technology, talks about avoiding falling foul of scams and the opportunity to chat with like minded carers.

The Information and Celebration Day is free but places are limited and booking is essential by calling the Carer Support Team on 01902 553409 or emailing carer.support@wolverhampton.gov.uk. Refreshments including a light buffet lunch will be provided.

Councillor Sandra Samuels OBE, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Adults, said: "This special Carers Week event is an excellent opportunity for carers to find out more about the help that is available to them here in Wolverhampton from our Carer Support Team and other agencies.

"I'd also encourage anyone who is caring for a friend or relative to get in touch with our Carer Support Team, and if they haven't already, to make sure their GP is aware of their caring role as this will enable them to access a range of advice and services to support them."

The Carer Support Team offers support for informal carers across the city including information, advice and guidance on a range of issues including benefits, emotional support, carer services and support groups.
