The Queen of Crime Agatha Christie and the worldwide influence of lacquerware will be the subjects of 2 fascinating talks taking place at Bantock House Museum next month.

The events, which are free, are part of Bantock's regular programme of talks which support its exhibitions and collections.

Gale Goddard will be discussing the life and work of the famous mystery writer who created super sleuths Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple in 'A Tribute to Agatha Christie' on Tuesday 5 November, 2013.

She will also be talking about her own collection of Christie memorabilia which will be on display at Bantock's Community Gallery from Thursday (24 October, 2013) until Sunday 19 January, 2014.

Meanwhile, Takashi Wakamiya will be flying in from Japan to give a talk about 'True Lacquerware' on Wednesday 6 November, 2013.

Takashi will introduce true lacquer and describe how it is obtained and processed, as well as focusing on its influence abroad - which led to a thriving Japanning industry in Wolverhampton and Bilston in the 18th and 19th century. An accomplished craftsman, Takashi will look at lacquerware from Wajima, where he works, which is one of Japan's top production areas.

Both talks begin at 12.30pm and entry is free. For more information, please call Bantock House Museum on 01902 552195 or visit Type=links;Linkid=2112;Title=Bantock House Museum;Target=_blank;.
