Brian Yale's First World War Battlefield Paintings are on display at Wolverhampton Art Gallery until Saturday 29 November, 2014. The paintings date from the 1980s and are based on sketches made on visits to places where some of the bloodiest fighting of the Great War took place.

The Cradley born artist attended Stourbridge School of Art and studied at the Royal College of Art at the same time as David Hockney and Allen Jones. He was later a designer with the Greater London Council but during that time he also pursued his love of painting.

Wolverhampton Art Gallery is open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm and entry is free.

The exhibition is part of a series of events taking place in Wolverhampton between now and 2018 to mark the 100th anniversary of the First World War.
