Motorists in Wolverhampton are being advised that part of the ring road will be closed as essential repairs are carried out on a pedestrian bridge.

Glass panels are being installed on the foot bridge, which goes from the bus station to the railway station, to replace ones that were damaged in vandal attacks last year.

While this work is being carried out the ring road from Broad Street to Bilston Island will be closed in both directions, for five nights from 22 to 26 April between 7pm and 6am.

Contractors will also carry out the required annual routine inspection and general maintenance during this period.

Councillor Peter Bilson, Wolverhampton City Council's Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration and Prosperity, said: "We need to close the ring road while the replacement glass is installed as we cannot risk debris falling onto passing traffic below.

"We have chosen to carry out this work during off peak hours to minimise disruption and we will also use this opportunity to carry out other maintenance and inspections.

"We appreciate this will cause some inconvenience and thank people in advance for their patience and co-operation."

Signs have been installed on the ring road advising motorists of the closure and diversions will be in place.
