Students from all over the globe collected certificates after passing "Skills for Life" examinations testing their English speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.

Dozens of students who completed the English for Speakers of Other Languages course run by Wolverhampton's Adult Education Service attended a special reception hosted by the Mayor of Wolverhampton, Councillor Mike Heap, in the Mayor's Parlour last week.

Councillor Phil Page, Wolverhampton City Council's Cabinet Member for Schools, Skills and Learning, said: "Improving their English language skills is very important for the students as it helps them and their families feel part of the community here in Wolverhampton.

"It also helps them support children at school and gives them better job opportunities."

Mayor Councillor Heap added: "It was a pleasure to meet the students who are working so hard to develop their language skills and I wish them all the very best for the future."
