City of Wolverhampton Council has confirmed details of how city businesses can gain access to further local restrictions Government support grants.

The Local Restrictions Support Grant (Open) provides financial support to businesses linked to the hospitality, hotel, bed and breakfast and leisure sectors affected by Covid-19 Tier 2 local restrictions which were in place from 14 October to 4 November 2020.

This grant is based on a business’ rateable value, and where the council is unable to attribute a rateable value to a business’ trading premises, it will be entitled to grants based on its fixed costs aligned to rateable values.

The Local Restrictions Support Grant (Sector) is a mandatory grant which is applicable to Wolverhampton for the period from 1 November to 4 November, 2020.

The grant is intended to support businesses that have been required to close due to national guidance since 23 March, 2020. It may also cover any new national closures of business property types in future, such as nightclubs, dance halls, and discotheques.

The level of grant payment will depend on the rateable value of the premises occupied by the business.

These grants are in addition to the Local Restrictions Support Grant and the Additional Restrictions Grant, which are already receiving applications.

Councillor Stephen Simkins, Cabinet Member for City Economy, said: “Varying Covid-19 restrictions have made it difficult for businesses to navigate through these difficult times and there are a number of different grants available.

“I am urging Wolverhampton businesses to head to the Wolves in Business website and find out what funding is available to them.

“As a council, we have ensured thousands of eligible businesses have had quick access to vital funding to help them through this most difficult time.

“We are ensuring these new grants are allocated swiftly and that no business is left behind as our city looks to recover from the financial impact of Covid-19.”
