City of Wolverhampton Council is set to start £1.7 million of summer carriageway improvements from the end of this week.

The project is being financed by the Department for Transport Local Highways Maintenance Challenge Fund.

The vast majority of works are planned during the school holidays to minimise disruption, with five areas to undergo much needed resurfacing before they fall into disrepair.

Residents and businesses fronting the roads concerned are being kept fully informed by letter in advance of the works, while roadside information signs have been or will be visible prior to each set of works getting underway.

Councillor Steve Evans, Cabinet Member for City Environment, said: "It is important to stress that finance for these works will come from the Department for Transport Local Highways Maintenance Challenge Fund.

"I apologise in advance for any inconvenience the works may cause residents and businesses but carrying out these works now will make good these roads for many years to come and should prevent larger scale works in the future, which would have resulted in a much larger bill."
