Wolverhampton City Council is set to start more than £700,000 of summer carriageway improvements from next week.

The vast majority of the works have been planned during the school holidays to minimise disruption, with 5 roads to undergo much needed resurfacing before they fall into disrepair.

Residents and businesses fronting the roads concerned are being kept fully informed by letter in advance of the works, while roadside information signs have been or will be visible a fortnight prior to each set of works getting underway.

Councillor Steve Evans, Cabinet Member for City Environment, said: "It is important to stress that finance for these works will come out of the capital fund and not the general fund we use to provide our services.

"I apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause residents and businesses but carrying out these works now will make good these roads for many years to come and should prevent larger scale works in the future, which would have resulted in a much larger bill."

Windmill Lane, between Castlecroft Lane and Baggeridge Road, will be closed on weekdays between 9am and 4pm from Monday 3 August to Friday 7 August.

Compton Road West, between The Avenue and Finchfield Hill, will see lane closures on weekdays between 9am and 4pm from Thursday 6 August and Monday 17 August; and full closure between Ashfield Road and Finchfield Hill on Sunday 9 August between 8am and 4pm.

Kempthorne Avenue will be closed on weekdays between 8am and 6pm from Monday 17 August to Friday 11 September.

Bushbury Lane Island at the Elston Hall Lane will see a partial closure of Bushbury Lane and full closure of Elston Hall Lane and Kempthorne Avenue from 8am to 6pm on Sunday 23 August.

The Rock (A41), Lower Street and Henwood Road will see weeknight closures between 7pm and 6am from Monday 7 September to Friday 11 September.
