Details of the City of Wolverhampton Show have been released today as tickets go on sale for the event which will take place at Wolverhampton Racecourse on Saturday 11 July and Sunday 12 July.
Plenty of onsite parking, good public transport links and an end to costly grass repairs at West Park are among the many anticipated benefits of a trial move to the all weather racecourse this summer. A decision about hosting the show at the racecourse in the future will be made later this year.
There will be a host of new attractions at this year's event which will also see the reinstatement of the Wolvestock Country Music Festival. A trio of new attractions will be brought to the main arena alongside favourites Big Pete Monster Truck and Bolddog Lings Motorcycle Display Team. Debuts to this year's show include quad bike stunts performed by the Kangaroo Kid, The Stampede Stunt Company performing a range of stunts on horses and David Seamark Sheepdog Display.
The Wolvestock Country Music Festival makes a comeback following a short hiatus. Its stage will play host to a full programme of country music acts and line dancing throughout both days of the event and spectators can enjoy this inclusive of their entrance fee to the City of Wolverhampton Show. Organisers will also revive Wolvestock tradition by offering onsite weekend caravan pitches from midday on Friday 10 July.
Wolverhampton City Council's head of entertainment and events Mark Blackstock said: "This year, the City of Wolverhampton Show will be held for the first time at Wolverhampton Racecourse which we think will be better suited to a growing and ever popular event. The racecourse has ample parking, is well connected and more durable to accommodate the types of activities taking place. We've added to the line up this year and welcome the Wolvestock Country Music Festival to the billing. This promises to be a fantastic day out for the whole family. While ticket prices have increased slightly this year, there will be more entertainment and activities than ever before. We believe this is still great value for money. After the show we will review the choice of venue for next year."
Wolverhampton Racecourse managing director David Roberts said: "We are delighted to be associated with the City of Wolverhampton Show for the first time, and are looking forward to hosting our local residents and neighbours, as well as visitors from further afield, with a fantastic variety of entertainment for all ages."
Weekend caravan pitches will be bookable by phone only through Midland Box Office on 0870 320 7000 shortly at the price of £25 per vehicle. The £25 weekend pass includes free entrance for 2 customers to the City Show. Caravan customers who arrive on Friday 10 July will be treated to an evening of line dancing with instructors and DJs from 6pm until 9pm that evening.
There will be numerous food outlets, bars and trade stalls around the site as well as many more attractions, including a funfair, puppet shows, City of Wolverhampton Woodturners, Wolverhampton & District Model Engineering Society - Miniature Steam Railway, a BMX Track and the Black Country Fuchsia Society. Gates open on both days at 11am, with arena shows starting at 11.30am. The show finishes at 6pm both days.
Ticket prices are £5 adults, £4 children and free for under 2s. Car parking is £3 per car per day, to be paid on the day.
