People in Wolverhampton are being encouraged to give local children the best possible start in life - by opening their homes and becoming foster parents.

The City of Wolverhampton Council’s Fostering for Wolverhampton team will be out and about across the city from Monday 8 September to next Friday 12 September, offering relaxed and friendly opportunities to learn more about fostering.

To start the week, a special event will take place on Monday at the Wulfrun Centre (outside Pandora) from 9am to 4.30pm, where residents can meet the team, hear real stories from foster parents, and explore how they could get involved – at their own pace, in their own way.

“Yesterday, you walked past. But that was yesterday. Today, you could change a child's life. Become a foster parent.”

That’s the message behind Fostering for Wolverhampton’s latest appeal which is asking residents to consider becoming foster parents and make a real difference in their community.

Fostering through the council helps keep children close to the people, schools and communities they know. It means they can maintain important connections and routines, which are vital for their wellbeing. It also ensures that foster parents receive dedicated, local support and training from a team who truly understand the needs of children in Wolverhampton.

Councillor Jacqui Coogan, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Education, said: “We are proud of our dedicated foster parents who offer love, stability, and care to children in need. Fostering can be a truly transformative experience – not just for the child, but for the foster parent too. If you have a spare room and love in your heart, we’d love to hear from you.”

There’s no single type of foster parent – people from all walks of life are welcome. You don’t need to be married, own your home, or have children of your own. What matters most is your ability to provide a safe, nurturing environment.

Fostering for Wolverhampton offers strong support and excellent training to help foster parents thrive. New foster parents receive intensive support for the first 6 weeks and ongoing monthly visits from supervising social workers. There’s also a vibrant fostering community to connect with.

Foster care can last from a few days to several years, and foster parents receive a regular, tax exempt fee and allowance to cover the cost of caring for a child.
