Inspectors visited Long Knowle Primary School at the end of January and, in their report published today (Monday 10 March, 2025), found that pupils do their best to live the school’s values.
Long Knowle offers an 'ambitious, carefully sequenced curriculum' which has 'a positive impact on pupils’ learning', with teachers having 'the subject knowledge they need to teach the curriculum well'.
Staff are 'highly skilled in teaching phonics and early reading', meaning 'pupils learn to read with confidence and accuracy'.
Pupils with additional needs, including those with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND), are 'swiftly identified' and get the help and support they need to learn well in school.
There is a 'strong culture' of safety and well being, with staff listening to and acting on any worries or concerns pupils may have and consistently applying the school's 'high behaviour expectations'.
Pupils say ‘everyone is included’ at Long Knowle, and describe teachers as 'amazing and kind’.
All pupils benefit from the school’s 'strong' enrichment offer, which inspires them to 'broaden their horizons and be their personal best'. Be it singing in the choir, learning to play a musical instrument or partaking in the school’s rich sports programme, 'pupils are proud of their achievements'.
They also 'value opportunities to take on responsibilities' such as becoming school councillors, digital leaders and school captains.
Meanwhile, leaders 'make effective decisions in the best interests of children', and staff are 'highly positive' about the support they receive from leaders to manage their workload and well being.
Inspectors concluded that Long Knowle Primary School has taken effective action to maintain the standards identified at the previous inspection, when it was judged to be Good.
Headteacher Julie Bond said: "We are extremely proud of the report at Long Knowle and I am pleased the hard work of all the staff has been recognised and validated. We look forward to continuing our positive relationships with our children and families.”
Councillor Jacqui Coogan, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Education, said: "Congratulations to everyone at Long Knowle Primary School on another super inspection report – it makes for excellent reading and describes a school where pupils are happy, safe and achieving well.”
