Motorists are being warned of potential major disruption as a section of a main Wolverhampton road is closed due to emergency phone line repairs by BT from today (Monday) 11 August.

A section of the A449 Penn Road, between its junctions with Witton Road and Rookery Lane, will be closed to traffic heading into the city from 9.30am today for an estimated 2 weeks.

BT is having to carry out the emergency works after reports that hundreds of properties, including a doctor's surgery, in the Penn area are without phone lines.

The fault is believed to have been caused by water damage to underground cables.

Diversions will be in place and traffic travelling into Wolverhampton on the A449 will be directed along Warstones Road from the Lloyd Hill/Warstones Road Island.

On Monday only, Goldthorn Hill will be closed at its junction with Penn Road. This will affect traffic heading towards Penn down Goldthorn Hill (diversion down Rookery Lane) while no vehicles will be able to turn onto Goldthorn Hill from Penn Road or carry straight on from Coalway Road.
