The 'New Year, New Start' event at St Andrew's Church Hall showcased a variety of services and activities to help people improve their health and wellbeing or employment prospects, learn a new skill and find out about community safety initiatives.
Visitors were able to meet representatives from a wide range of organisations and groups, including Whitmore Reans Resource Centre, the African Caribbean Community Initiative, Gloucester Street Church, Gatis Community Space, Wolves at Work, Black Country Impact, WV Active, Asda, Samaritans Wolverhampton, Wolves Foundation, the Madina Masjid, Whitmore Reans Connect, Compton Care and St Andrew's Church.
Also on hand to meet local residents were staff from Wolverhampton Homes, Midland Heart, the University of Wolverhampton, Victim Support, Changing Lives, P3, Recovery Near You, CrimeStoppers, the Refugee and Migrant Centre and Embrace, Wolverhampton's Sexual Health Service.
Visitors also enjoyed free refreshments courtesy of Asda, Partap Sweet Centre, Uppals Sweet Centre and Greggs, entertainment from local groups including the African Caribbean Community Initiative and Dunstall Hill and St Jude's primary schools, and got to meet Wolverhampton Wanderers mascot Wolfie, while 65 children took part in a plasticine play session led by Newhampton Arts Centre at Whitmore Reans Library.
Residents were also invited to have their say about plans to close the subway under Craddock Street, which has become a hotspot for anti social behaviour, and about life in general in Whitmore Reans.
The free event day followed on from a community clean up which took place on Friday and saw partners coming together to clean the area around the Avion Centre and tackle fly tipping.
On Saturday, some 1,000 "Shop a Tipper" leaflets were distributed by hand to local homes, encouraging people to report fly tipping, for which they will receive a £100 reward if the fly tipper is successfully prosecuted or given a Fixed Penalty Notice. Councillor Roger Lawrence, the leader of the City of Wolverhampton Council and chair of Health and Wellbeing Together board, said: "We were delighted by the response of local people to the community events in Whitmore Reans on Friday and Saturday.
"I'd like to thank all the groups and organisations which were involved, and particularly the performers from the African Caribbean Community Initiative and Dunstall Hill and St Jude's primary schools for putting on such a good show for the crowds on Saturday.
"We now want to build on this and work with partners and the local community to see how we can further improve the local area over the coming months."
