Visitors are being invited to take a free 'behind the scenes' tour of some of the city's most popular cultural venues and attractions.

The back stage previews are included in the Wolverhampton Wednesdays events programme which forms part of the Wolverhampton Portas Pilot initiative.

Wolverhampton Art Gallery, in Lichfield Street, will host the first behind the scenes tour tomorrow (Wednesday 16 April) at 5.30pm. Curators will be on hand to talk about the collections and visitors will have a chance to get up close to gems like Turner's view of High Green - and learn why the young Turner, who went on to become one of England's greatest artists, stopped off in Wolverhampton.

As part of the current programme which runs to the end June, visitors will also have the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes at the City Archives on 23 April, the Grand Theatre on 30 April, the Civic Halls on 7 May, the Arena Theatre on 14 May, Light House on 18 June and finally Newhampton Arts Centre on 25 June.

Booking is essential as places are limited - to book a place on the tour of Wolverhampton Art Gallery, contact 01902 552055.
