Parents in Wolverhampton are being urged to become 'Safety Heroes' this week and ensure their children avoid accidents.

Wolverhampton City Council's Trading Standards team will be marking Child Safety Week by holding a series of talks at libraries and children's centres across the city.

Child Safety Week is a national initiative that will take place from 24 June to 30 June and is aimed at raising awareness at the potential hazards youngsters face and to reduce the number of accidents they suffer.

The theme of this year's week is 'Be a Safety Hero'. The clear message is that people don't have to be superhuman to be a safety hero and can take small steps to ensure their children are safe.

Officers from Trading Standards will be visiting the following venues:

  • Tuesday 25 June: Low Hill Library Bookstart Baby+ Club - 10am to 11.30am
  • Tuesday 25June: Wednesfield Library Baby Booktime Club - 2pm to 3pm
  • Wednesday 26 June: Bilston Library Baby Booktime Club - 10.30am to 11.30am
  • Thursday 27 June: The Marshes Children's Centre - 2pm
  • Thursday 4 July: St Anthony's Stay and Play - 9.30am
  • Friday 5 July: Bushbury Triangle Stay and Play - 12.30pm

Parents will be given useful information on a range of topics, including tips on reducing hazards in the home and road safety advice.

Councillor John Reynolds, Wolverhampton City Council's Cabinet Member for City Services, said: "Child Safety Week is an important and useful way for our officers to get vital information out to parents.

"We are being proactive and going out in the community to highlight potential safety issues and steps parents can take to avoid them and would encourage as many people to attend these events as possible."
