Parents or guardians of pupils who are currently in Year 6 and are due to start at secondary school next year have until the end of October 2016 to apply for a place at their preferred schools.
To do so, parents should log on to Type=articles;Articleid=2548;Title=School admissions; and complete the short application process as soon as possible.
To help parents and pupils make their decision, all secondary schools in Wolverhampton will be holding open days and evenings to give them the opportunity to see what's on offer. Councillor Claire Darke, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Education, said: "If your child has recently started their final year at primary or junior school, now is the time to start thinking about their secondary school place for September 2017.
"That may seem a long way off, but the closing date for applications for secondary school places is the end of October 2016.
"All Wolverhampton's secondary schools are holding open days and open evenings over the coming weeks, and I'd urge parents to see for themselves the facilities on offer and selected their preferred schools before the application deadline."
Applicants will be notified of their child's allocated school place on 1 March, 2017.
Councillor Darke added: "Wolverhampton's secondary schools have undergone a major transformation in recent years, and I'm sure parents and pupils will be impressed by what they see.
"We invested £270 million in new and refurbished accommodation through the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme. This has transformed secondary education providers in the city and provided modern learning environments that our young people can be proud of.
"We are also working hard to raise school standards across Wolverhampton, and 82% of our secondary schools are now rated good or outstanding by Ofsted, compared to just 69% 3 years ago."
