The achievements of around 140 people with a disability or a learning difficulty will be celebrated during Adult Learners' Week which starts on Monday 20 May, 2013.

The learners who have all enrolled on adult education classes this year will be handed certificates to mark their achievements by the new Mayor of Wolverhampton, Councillor  Milkinder Jaspal next Friday 24 May, 2013.

The council's Adult Education Service runs around 20 classes for people with learning or physical disabilities, with subjects as varied as Art, Crafts, Pottery, Flower Arranging, ICT, Cookery, Holistic Therapies, Jewellery Making and Belly Dancing.

Sian Fletcher, Programme Manager for Creative Studies, said, "Many of the learners join us from the city council's day centres at Stowheath and Oxley, and also from Green Park School.

"We make sure the learners are given the help and support they need with a focus on developing their independent living and life skills. A Grade 2 Ofsted inspection in January 2009 commented very favourably on the high level of support we provide."
