Apply or renew a Hackney Carriage Drivers Licence.

Please note that as of the 29 July 2019 Vehicle licensing will no longer be undertaking Vehicle inspections/enquiries from Culwell street Depot. Our new office will be located at Hickman Avenue, Wolverhampton, WV1 2HE.

In order to apply for a Hackney Carriage Drivers Licence, applicants must have held a valid UK driving licence for a minimum period of 12 months. As well as this, the following processes must be completed:

  • Enhanced (not basic) DBS certificate through Personnel Checks (taxi@personnelchecks.co.uk), supported by City of Wolverhampton Council, and must not be dated later than 3 months before the date the application is made
  • DVLA Driving Licence check via Personnel Checks (taxi@personnelchecks.co.uk)
  • Driver training and theoretical tests
  • Practical driving test
  • Medical examination – the medical form can be found under Downloads

Once all of the above have been completed, then an appointment will need to be made to submit your application.

Renewal Hackney Carriage Drivers Licence

Existing Hackney Carriage drivers will receive an appointment in the post to renew their Hackney Carriage Drivers Licence prior to the licence expiring.

However, please note that Licensing Services are not obliged to do this; therefore the onus is on the driver to ensure they submit a renewal prior to the expiry of their licence.
