Under current legislation, councils are required to certify certain stadia.

The Safety of Sports Grounds Act 1975 and the Fire Safety and Safety of Places of Sport Act 1987, applies to any designated sporting activity taking place before a covered grandstand capable of holding 500 spectators or more.

Application and renewal of certificate costs are £70.00 per hour.
