If you live in and own your own home, Wolverhampton Home Improvement Service (WHIS) can help with grants and loans for repairs and essential maintenance to your property. Eligibility criteria applies.

This service is dedicated to helping older people, people with disabilities, and vulnerable people to live in their own homes safely and comfortably.

We offer a one to one service which allows us to treat you as an individual. We assess your needs based on your current living and personal circumstances

Who can use the service

WHIS can provide a range of grants or loans if you are:

  • are a resident of Wolverhampton and
  • are aged over 60 and
  • are on income-related benefits and
  • you are an owner occupier

Help available:

Financial assistance is based on the total value of the property. Currently, this falls under two categories.

  • £0 - £500 through a non-repayable grant
  • £501 - £10,000 through a repayable grant (loan). A charge will be added to the property through a local land charge and the amount of the loan will be repaid in full on sale; change of ownership or demolition of the property.

  • are on income-related benefits and
