We want you to enjoy our city parks and open spaces. This often involves feeding the animals that live there, such as ducks and squirrels.
Feeding these animals should be done responsibly. Here are a few tips:
- Do not leave large quantities of food out, and never leave food if the animals are not around. This can be seen as littering, and you could find yourself with £100 Fixed Penalty Notice.
- Leave small amounts of the suggested food items (below) and clear up any that have not been eaten before you leave. The food that's left will attract rats or can go mouldy and make the animals ill. If in doubt do not leave any food at all.
- Ducks like to eat Seeds, Oats, Rice, Lettuce, Frozen Peas & Sweetcorn. Bread is not good for them.
- Squirrels like to eat nuts and chopped up fresh fruit & vegetables.
