Wraparound childcare is for children between the ages of 4-11 and it provides care before and after the school day. It is normally located at or near to your child's school and runs during term time. Holiday childcare should provide childcare for some/all of the school holidays.
School-age childcare will support your child to rest and relax before and after school, they have the opportunity to enjoy activities with their friends and receive a healthy breakfast and snacks. It can also provide childcare in the school holidays allowing you as parents/carers to access training and/or employment with the peace of mind that your child is being looked after by an Ofsted registered provision with staff that have been DBS checked and who have received relevant training.
The childcare could be through a local primary school, a wraparound hub, a childminder, or an early year’s provider.
This service will be chargeable however most families can access tax free childcare or the childcare element of universal credits to make savings on the cost.
Which scheme you’re better off with depends on your situation. Use the childcare calculator to work out which type of support is best for you.

Parents Right to Request
The Government seeks to help parents/carers to work, or work for longer, by making more quality childcare available during the week and school holidays.
Parents have a right to request that their school considers providing wraparound or holiday childcare for children from reception up to the end of key stage 3 (year 9) and up to age 18 for disabled children. They can make the request directly to the school their child attends.
Childcare providers will also have a 'right to request' that they provide the childcare.
Advice from the Department for Education has been produced to help maintained schools and academies (including free schools) understand how to respond to: a parent's requests that the school that their child attends consider establishing wraparound and/or holiday childcare, or private childcare providers' requests to use school facilities for wraparound and/or holiday provision at times when the school is not using them.
For more information please visit Responding to requests for wraparound childcare.
