Rest Centres will provide only basic services, so if you have somewhere else you could stay its best to do that.
What will happen?
When you arrive you will be given a sticker. This tells our staff that you’re awaiting registration so please don’t remove it. You will then be asked to Register. Once you have completed registration you will be given a wristband. This shows the Rest Centre Team you are registered. The Rest Centre Team will then advise you where you can go.
What about my children at school?
There is space on the registration form to list any children wo are at school (if the incident has happened during the school day). These children can be collected and transported to the rest centre if required. Please remember to sign out if you would like to leave the Rest Centre to collect your children.
Can I bring my pet?
You may be able to print your pet if this can be accommodated. Please speak to the Rest Centre Team. Please note that you will be responsible for your Pet. We are able to provide water but cannot provide Pet Food.
Can I take photos or videos?
Due to privacy and dignity we would ask for no photos and videos to be taken in the Rest Centre.
What shall I do with my possessions?
There will be some limited storage space at the Rest Centre, but you must store things carefully and not block any walkways or create trip hazards. Unfortunately we’re not able to take responsibility for any possessions, so make sure you keep your valuables safe.
When can I leave?
If you need to leave but are planning to come back, there is a signing in/out facility at the buildings entrance. You MUST remember to sign out if you leave, or you will be regarded as missing, for example if there is a fire drill. It is important to note that you must not attempt to return home until you’ve been officially told its safe to do so.
How will people know where I am?
When you have registered, the Police will be able to let your friends and family know where you are and that you are safe. If you need to call someone else such as your work, telephone facilities may be available, although they will be shared with everyone else so its best to use a mobile phone if you have one. If you do need to use a shared phone please be considerate and keep the length of your calls to a minimum.
Can I stay overnight?
If the incident is fairly significant, there may be a need for somewhere to stay overnight. Again its preferable if you can stay with friends and family, but emergency sleeping arrangements will be available at the Rest Centre. If you do decide to leave the Rest Centre, make sure you sign out.
What will happen to my personal information?
A record will be kept with the Emergency Planning and Business Continuity Team of who attended the Rest Centre for a period of time afterwards, in case there is a need for any follow up. After this any personal information will be destroyed.
Are food and drinks provided?
We have arrangements in place to provide at least light refreshments. In a more substantial or longer term incident we will provide catering as appropriate.
I have an accessibility or special requirements?
Please speak to one of the Rest Centre Team who will endeavour to assist.
I have special dietary requirements?
We endeavour to cater for your dietary in case you need to eat at a different time for any reason.
Can I smoke?
A designated smoking facility will be set up outside the building. Please use this if you want to smoke. Inside the Rest Centre building is completely no smoking.
Can I bring alcohol in?
No, alcohol must not be brought into the Rest Centre, or consumed on the premises.
Who should I speak to if I have a problem?
Ask a member of Rest Centre staff if you have any issues. They will be identifiable by the brightly coloured tabards and City of Wolverhampton Council Lanyards and ID Cards.
