Report Blue Badge misuse

If you suspect someone of misusing a Blue Badge, you can report this to us confidentially.

The Blue Badge parking scheme is intended to improve access for disabled people, however the misuse of badges undermines the benefits of the scheme. It can also impact upon local traffic management and often creates hostility amongst other road users and members of the public.

Examples of badge misuse include:

  • using a counterfeit (fake) badge
  • using an amended badge
  • using a lost or stolen badge, or a badge of a deceased person
  • using a genuine badge where the registered user is not present

Blue badge misuse is an offence under the regulations and action taken could result in any of the following:

  • a penalty charge notice being issued
  • the badge being withdrawn
  • prosecution in the Magistrates Court where the maximum fine can be up to £1000.

Guidance for badge owners

Your Blue Badge must be used correctly, so it is important that you know the rules about using it. These are clearly set out in the booklet you received with your Blue Badge.

When you use your Blue Badge always follow the rules. If someone else drives a vehicle that you are a passenger in, they should also be made aware of the rules too.

Please remember:

  • Do not let someone else use your badge
  • Do not use the badge when it is out of date or no longer required
  • Do not use the badge when information on it is wrong or illegible
  • Do not copy, fake or change any information on the badge
