Home to school sustainable travel strategy
We have recently produced a Home to School Sustainable Travel Strategy.
The strategy aims to address the statutory duty placed on local authorities by the Education and Inspections Act 2006.
The four main elements of the duty are:
- an assessment of the travel and transport needs of children and young people
- an audit of the sustainable travel and transport infrastructure, that is used when travelling to and from, or between educational establishments
- a strategy to develop the sustainable travel and transport infrastructure, so that the travel and transport needs of children and young people are better catered
- the promotion of sustainable travel and transport modes on the journey to and from schools and other establishments.
The Home to School Sustainable Travel Strategy outlines how we will meet these extended duties by reviewing current practice and then build upon the information found. It sets out how we will continue to expand the promotion of sustainable travel to children and young people through objectives, targets, and an action plan.
