Parking contravention codes

From 31 March 2008, the Civil Enforcement of Parking Contraventions (England) General Regulations 2007 will come into force.

From this date, Penalty Charge Notices will be either £70 (higher level) or £50 (lower level), with corresponding reductions to £35 or £25 if payment is made within 14 days of issue.

The following tables give details of the code, level of charge and a description of on-street and car park contravention:

On-street contravention codes

01 High Parked on a restricted street - Single or double yellow lines
02 High Parked or unloading/loading on a restricted street where a loading ban is in force
05 Low Parked after the expiry of time paid for time
06 Low Parked without clearly displaying a valid Pay and Display ticket
07 Low Parked with additional payment made to extend the stay beyond the expiry of the time originally purchased
12 High Parked in a residents or shared use parking place or zone without clearly displaying either a permit, voucher, or Pay and Display ticket for that place
21 High Parked in a suspended bay or part of bay
22 Low Re-parked, within specified time, of leaving a bay within the same parking place
23 Low Parked in a parking place not designated for that class of vehicle
24 Low Not parked correctly within the markings of a place or bay
25 High Parked in a loading bay during restricted hours without loading being seen
26 High Parked in a special enforcement area more than 50cm from the edge of a carriageway and not within a designated parking place
30 Low Parked for longer than permitted
40 High Parked in a designated disabled person's parking place without displaying a valid disabled person's badge
45 High Parked on a taxi rank
46 High Stopped when prohibited - Red Route or Clearway
47 High Parked on a restricted bus stop
48 High Stopped in a restricted area outside a school during term time
61 High A heavy commercial vehicle wholly or partly parked on a footway, verge or land between two carriageways - 7.5 tonnes or more.
63 Low Parked with the engine running where prohibited
99 High Stopped on a pedestrian crossing or area marked by zigzags

74 High Using a vehicle in a parking place in connection with the sale or offering or exposing for sale of goods when prohibited
80 Low Parked for longer than the maximum period permitted
86 Low Parked beyond the bay markings
87 High Parked in a designated disabled person's parking place without displaying a valid disabled person's badge in the prescribed manner
90 Low Re-parked within one hour (or other specified time) of leaving a bay or space in a car park
