Blue badge scheme

Disabled persons issued with a blue parking badge may park free of charge and without time limit at parking meters on-street and "pay and display" on street parking unless a local traffic order, specifying a time limit for holders of disabled parking badges, such as a ban on loading, is in force.

Please note there are no concessions for disabled badge holders who use off-street car park pay and display bays.

*** Closed from Monday to Friday from 7am to 6pm
**** First hour free during December 2009

  • Motorbikes are charged 40p per visit at Civic Centre, Broad Street and Fold Street car parks 
  • No overnight parking permitted with the exception of Faukland Street car park
  • Once you have paid, a grace period of 15 minutes is given for you to exit Pay on Foot car parks
  • All lost tickets will be charged at the full daily rate of £10.00
  • The reduced £2.50 evening charge is only applicable for tickets issued during evening tariff periods. All other tickets are charged at the normal daily increment
  • Lost or amended permits are subject to a £10 re-issue charge.

Quarterly season tickets

You can buy quarterly car parking season tickets for a number of council car parks:

  • Quarterly season tickets are issued to a specific vehicle
  • Tickets must be affixed to the vehicle's off-side of the windscreen
  • Season tickets can be purchased for the following periods:
    • January 1 to March 31
    • April 1 to June 30
    • July 1 to September 30
    • October 1 to December 31
  • Season tickets are issued quarterly and are valid for a period of 13 weeks on weekdays, Monday to Friday only
  • Charges are reviewed annually. We will endeavour to tell season ticket holders in advance of any increases in charges.

Many city centre car parks are equipped with security cameras and a high standard of lighting provided along with regular security and enforcement patrols.
