Pavement obstructions
Streetworks, roadworks, skips, scaffolds, hoardings, advertising boards and building materials that block the pavement are all considered to cause an obstruction and may cause pedestrians to step into the road.
Obstructions reduce the natural flow of people, cause difficulties for wheelchair and mobility scooters as well as people with visual impairments.
Types of bstructions include:
- skips or scaffolding obstructing the pavement
- absence of barriers around streetworks or roadworks where building work is affecting pedestrian safety
- building materials blocking the pavement
- advertising boards blocking the pavement
- banners or bunting causing an obstruction
- illegal stalls or outside shop displays.
