People are being encouraged to take control of their health and wellbeing with the City of Wolverhampton Council's WV Active leisure centres this Spring.

WV Active offers a wide choice of sport and fitness activities for everyone in a safe and friendly environment at 3 venues, WV Active Aldersley, WV Active Central and WV Active Bilston-Bert Williams.

More than 13,000 people are now signed up - with membership more than doubling in the last few years. Meanwhile, opening hours return to normal today (Wednesday 10 April, 2024) following extended opening at WV Active Central and WV Active Bilston-Bert Williams for Ramadan.

John Denley, Wolverhampton's Director of Public Health, said: "More and more residents are taking control of their health and wellbeing and joining our WV Active leisure service, with membership numbers doubling since the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Regular physical activity is one of the most important things you can do for your health. Being physically active can improve your brain health, help manage weight, strengthen your bones and muscles, reduce the risk of disease, and improve your ability to do everyday activities.

"As a WV Active member you get access to all 3 of our leisure centres, can take part in WV Active and Les Mills group exercise classes and book your sports and activities online.

"And whether you want to work out in the gym, take to the courts or running track, have fun with your family in one of our swimming pools or just relax in a cafe, you can shape each and every visit around what you want to do."

WV Active venues include:

  • WV Active Aldersley, Hugh Porter Way, Aldersley, offering 2 fitness gyms and 2 exercise studios, athletics track, cycling velodrome, outdoor tennis and netball courts, sports pitches and indoor arena for badminton, tennis, indoor bowls, 5 a-side football and more
