Training in first aid and courses for lifeguards

We organise the following training and development courses which are pre-requisites for people seeking employment in Leisure Centres:

Courses

The following courses are available:

  • Save a Baby's Life
  • National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ)
  • National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers & Coaches
  • First Aid at Work Qualification
  • First Aid at Work Refresher Qualification 
  • Appointed Persons First Aid Certificate

Save a Baby's Life

SAVE A BABY'S LIFE courses are designed for anyone who looks after or cares for a baby.

The short 2 hour course covers what to do in an emergency situation that involves choking, drowning or non-breathing for babies up to 12 months old.

These skills are easily learnt and could buy time until the emergency services arrive.  Training is free but £1 would be appreciated for information and certificate costs.  Give yourself peace of mind and sign up now.  The courses dates will all take place at Bilston Leisure Centre, Prouds Lane, Bilston WV14 6PW .

National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) 

Wolverhampton Sport and Recreation have been externally verified by the Institute of Qualified Lifeguards and successfully approved as a quality assured training organisation for this qualification.

The course is intended for those seeking to become professional lifeguards and is valid for 2 years. An extensive programme is covered on both theory and practical techniques.

All candidates must be 16 years of age or over prior to course commencement, be able to swim 100m continuously on front and back.  Swim 50m in 60 seconds.  Jump/dive into deep water, surface dive to deepest part of the pool (up to 2.4m) and climb out unaided (where pool design allows), tread water for 30 seconds in deep water.

National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches

This course is designed to equip candidates with practical life saving skills. It is a must for anyone teaching in a swimming pool environment and is available in a 2-day or 1-day format.  All candidates must be 16 years of age or over prior to course commencement.

First Aid at Work Qualification

This is a 4-day certified course designed to train employees up to the minimum required by the Health & Safety Executive and is valid for 3 years.  Our tutors are now registered course trainers and the courses are registered with and recognised by the Health & Safety Executive.  All candidates must be 16 years of age or over prior to course commencement.

First Aid at Work Refresher Qualification

This is a 2-day certified course which enables people who have an existing First Aid at Work Qualification to refresh within the 3 year period.  This course can only be accessed if an existing valid First Aid at Work Certificate can be provided.

Appointed Persons First Aid Certificate

This 1 day course is for employees who can step in when the fully qualified person is not available. The course focuses on three key areas (Emergency Response, Emergency Action & Summoning Assistance) and is valid for 3 years.  All candidates must be 16 years of age or over prior to course commencement.
