Safe Swimming Policy for Young Children
Sport & Recreation operates a policy to promote safe swimming for young children. Parents, Guardians and Carers are advised that for their enjoyment and safety they should follow the guidance below.
- All children under the age of eight should be accompanied by a person deemed responsible by the management of a centre as detailed below:
- A person over 18 may be responsible for up to two children under the age of eight. During pre-advertised family sessions this person may be responsible for up to three children under the age of eight.
- A person aged between 16 and 18 may be responsible for one child under the age of eight.
- Adults responsible for children are reminded to remain in full eye contact of their charge(s) at all time during their visit. If for any reason a child must be left unsupervised then please ensure that alternative arrangements are made to the satisfaction of the pool staff.
- Adults who don't supervise their charge(s) in an appropriate manner will be advised of their responsibilities. Persistent neglect may involve the adult being asked to leave the pool.
- The Duty Officer or Facility Manager has the right to overrule the profiles mentioned above in the interest of health & safety.
