Success for Wolverhampton
Hundreds of youngsters were involved in the 13th Black Country Youth Games, which was held in Wolverhampton, at Aldersley Leisure Village on Friday, July 4 2008.
Wolverhampton and Walsall were crowned joint winners of the overall trophy with a tie of 27 points, very closely followed by Dudley with 24 points and then Sandwell with 22. The Peter Holmes MBE Fair Play award was won by Walsall.
The Games were organised by an events committee made up of the Black Country Sports Partnership and officers from each local authority Sport Development Team.
The event, which included eight sports, was attended by all four Mayors of the competing authorities, sponsorship representatives, specifically invited delegates and James Hillier- a 'Sporting Champion' in the sport of Athletics.
Sport Development Officer David Hill said; "The management team, along with all local authority sport development teams worked really hard to ensure the Youth Games was a success. The young people involved all appeared to have a fantastic day of sporting activities and we hope they have been inspired to continue further in sport."
