Current sport development initiatives

One of the key council priorities is to improve the health and well being of communities.

It is widely recognised that regular participation in exercise and physical activity does improve health and well-being.

Working closely with a variety of organisations such as Wolverhampton Primary Care Trust, Sport England and Neighbourhood Management, the sport development team attempts to present the message about the importance and health benefits of regular exercise.

The team has instigated a wide range of initiatives that have increased participation in healthy activities.

Current initiatives include;

 

 
 
Jimmy Mullen Five-a-Side Championships
 Details of Wolverhampton's prestigious football tournament, the Jimmy Mullen Five-a-Side Championships, held annually in the City.

Moving the Goal Posts
 funding of up to £5000 for existing sports clubs in wolverhampton

Black Country Youth Games
 Annual junior sports events between Wolverhampton, Dudley, Sandwell and Walsall.

Inclusive Fitness Initiative
 Details of the Inclusive Fitness Initiative taking place at Aldersley Leisure Centre.
