Equity in Sport and Accessible Facilities
The Sport Development Team are continually striving to improve their services for underrepresented groups in sport. Groups include:
- disabled people
- women and girls
- black and ethnic minority groups
With an emphasis on improving access, increasing awareness and widening sports opportunity, this will have a direct impact on increasing levels of participation.
The City Council’s main leisure centres have a wide range of facilities and attractions. It is hoped they will help attain the goal of achieving increased sporting usage within the groups highlighted above.
The leisure centres provide access through the following means and facilities.
- Designated car parking bays
- Pool hoists (Bilston Leisure Centre, Central Baths and Wolverhampton Swimming and Fitness Centre)
- Level entrances (no steps)
- Accessible toilets
- Lifts to activity levels
The sports development team aims to implement and support a range of diverse activities and initiatives that positively impact across all groups within the local communities, with a view to increasing their levels of participation.
