Winter Solstice at Tettenhall Station
Monday, 22 December 2008 between 1pm and 3pm
Join environmental ranger Mark Game, near the shortest day of the year
Learn about the origins and reasons for this winter celebration/pagan festival - and how many of these customs have been incorporated into more secular or Christian celebrations of Christmas.
For thousands of years, people from varied cultures have celebrated the solstice.
Many years ago, our ancestors were dependent on hunting, fishing, gathering and growing. The changing seasons and weather played a much greater role in their lives than perhaps their more modern counterparts.
Suitable clothing and footwear is advised for this popular, free event. Children are welcome, but must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
