Volunteers at the reserve

Learn about your local countryside

Volunteering is recognised as a pivotal activity in the development of strong cohesive communities.

Take care, take part and Volunteer

It allows people to make new friends and acquire new skills that may benefit them for years to come.  It enables communities to develop a shared sense of identity and ownership of common values.

The council supports and encourages local communities to care for the countryside and green spaces in Wolverhampton.  To achieve this, the Environment & Countryside Service and its partners run a number of activities throughout the year to enable local people to take part in this valuable and rewarding activity.  To find out more about forthcoming volunteer tasks, visit the events and activities listings.

The council also provides opportunities for volunteers to help out on a more formal basis.  This is especially useful to those who want a career in the countryside and who need to gain countryside management skills.

There are many people who already possess valuable skills who can make a significant contribution to the care of the countryside of Wolverhampton.  In particular, we need people to survey and monitor wildlife on our reserves and green spaces.

Volunteers from local branches of organisations such as RSPB and butterfly conservation together with local groups such as the Smestow Valley Bird Group already provide valuable information about the wildlife on the council’s reserves.
