Nature reserves

The Outdoor Classroom

Our nature reserves provide an ideal opportunity to learn about wildlife, the countryside and land use history.  The Environment and Countryside Service, along with partners such as the Wildside Activity Centre, run and host a range of activities - many of which are linked to the National Curriculum.

These activities include:

  • Minibeast hunts
  • Pond dipping
  • Habitat studies
  • Site tours
  • Earthwalks
  • Canal history
  • Wildlife Watch Groups
  • Narrowboat

We have produced an education pack for Northycote Farm and Country Park.

Alternatively, you can book a trip with the ranger at Pendeford Mill Nature Reserve or visit the Wildside Activity Centre for fun and games at Smestow Valley Local Nature Reserve

A PDF of our activity pack, with lots of helpful ideas to getting the most out of the learning experience, can be downloaded below. (It is a large file so only click once on the icon and it will eventually download)
