Planning controls for parks and green spaces
The council carries out regular audits on the quantity, quality and accessibility of parks and open spaces within the city.
Audits include:
- outdoor play facilities
- playing pitches
- amenity green spaces
- natural and semi-natural areas
- green corridors, and
- allotments.
The council also:
- works closely with other parts of the Council and organisations in preparing large scale regeneration plans for Wolverhampton, in order to establish strategic benefits
- comments on the affects of appropriate planning applications on existing parks and open spaces and/or in relation to the need for improved outdoor recreational and sporting facilities
- advises on the need, design, creation and future management of new parks and open spaces within new housing areas
- receives and reinvests contributions to create and enhance open space provision from planning proposals involving the creation of ten or more dwellings
- co-ordinates, liaises and advises on and where acceptable receive contributions through developments which will result in the loss of any surplus open space (including playing pitches) within the City.
